Natalie Minnis, owner of The Flavour Co juice café on Great Western Road, lost two stone in three months on a diet of mainly raw fruit and vegetables.
Before the diet
After the diet
After I launched The Flavour Co I put on quite a bit of weight, due mostly to working long hours and not eating properly. I didn’t have time to make juices or smoothies for myself, or even to eat properly – instead I would gorge on chocolate and biscuits in the evening. My weight started to soar.
Enough was enough, I thought, so I started to have two green smoothies (green leafy vegetables blended with fruit) every day. After a week or two I noticed that my cravings for chocolate had just about disappeared.
After a few weeks of drinking green smoothies regularly, I actually started to crave more raw fruit and vegetables. I started eating a large salad and fresh fruit every evening, and realised that I was already on my way to losing all that blubber I had put on.
I continued to have a cooked breakfast every day, ate my big salad and green smoothies, and allowed myself a treat every evening. Most evenings I didn’t even feel like the treat as I was so full up. It’s certainly the easiest diet I’ve ever been on.
The key is to have a good balance of nutrients. Raw plant food is full of nutrients: vitamins, minerals and antioxidants as well as carbohydrates, fat (nut oils and avocado) and proteins. It’s important to get these, but in the right balance. Once your body has the nutrients it needs, the cravings stop.
I’ve written more about this on my website: www.greensmoothieglasgow.co.uk/diet and I’m also writing an ebook that explains how green smoothies can help you lose weight.
